This page covers the recommended first steps after installing LiteNameTags.
1. Confirm that everything loads correctly
Before doing anything else, make sure your server starts without errors.
Check that:
LiteNameTags loads correctly
PacketEvents is enabled
PlaceholderAPI is installed if you plan to use placeholders
If one of these dependencies is missing or broken, LiteNameTags may not work as expected.
2. Review the default configuration
Open your generated configuration files and review the default values before making large changes.
Focus on:
general behavior
compatibility settings
placeholder usage
group formatting
performance-related options
Start simple and avoid changing too many settings at once.
3. Set up your first group
Open groups.yml and configure your main group.
For your initial setup, it is best to start with a simple format first. Once the plugin is working correctly, you can add more placeholders, colors, backgrounds, and animations later.
4. Join the server and test nametags
Enter the server and verify that nametags are rendering correctly.
